The U.S. Coast Guard, operating under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), awarded Rolls-Royce Solutions America (RRSA) a firm-fixed-price contract valued at up to $188.9 million. The agreement tasks RRSA with performing comprehensive dockside maintenance and emergent repairs for the agency’s 418-foot maritime security cutter fleet.
Coast Guard Taps Rolls-Royce for $188.9M Cutter Maintenance Contract
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) executed a 10-year contract, which includes all option periods, to ensure the operational readiness of its high-endurance cutters. Rolls-Royce Solutions America will maintain the critical main propulsion diesel engines (MPDE) installed across the entire fleet of 418-foot National Security Cutters (NSC).
These vessels form the backbone of the USCG fleet, supporting missions ranging from maritime security and defense readiness to search and rescue operations worldwide.
Under the terms of the agreement, RRSA will furnish all necessary labor, materials, equipment, and technical expertise. The maintenance scope covers both scheduled maintenance events and urgent, emergent repairs required to keep the cutters in peak condition.
Key locations where the company will perform work include major USCG bases in Alameda, California; Charleston, South Carolina; and Honolulu, Hawaii, in addition to executing required services at other global locations as operational necessity dictates.
RRSA manages every phase of the repair process. The contractor assumes responsibility for conducting initial inspections, providing detailed condition-found reports to the Coast Guard, and carrying out post-repair operational tests.
Furthermore, RRSA supports both dock trials and crucial sea trials to validate the performance and reliability of the restored propulsion systems before the vessels return to service.
To mitigate technical risk and guarantee service quality throughout the project’s duration, RRSA developed and implemented a robust Quality Assurance Plan covering parts delivery, installation, and equipment testing. This vital contract ensures the USCG maintains the full operational capability of its largest and most capable surface assets.
