MetTel successfully executed a comprehensive, nationwide modernization of network and voice infrastructure for the General Services Administration (GSA). This monumental project boosted connectivity, enhanced security, and improved operational efficiency across nearly 800 federal locations worldwide, setting a new benchmark for federal technology modernization.
The digital transformation and communications company fulfilled the initiative under the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract, a key vehicle for federal IT overhaul.
The project required MetTel to migrate hundreds of digital subscriber line (DSL) and long-term evolution (LTE) locations to higher-capacity broadband and Ethernet services.
Furthermore, MetTel upgraded data circuits to meet the significantly increased bandwidth demands of “Return to Office” initiatives across the agency.
Leveraging SD-WAN and Zero Trust for Security
MetTel leveraged cutting-edge technology to achieve this transformation. They deployed a Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) and integrated it with a Zero Trust security architecture.
This strategic move replaced traditional Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Services (MTIPS) gateways, significantly strengthening cybersecurity and optimizing cloud traffic flow for GSA’s global operations.
In addition to terrestrial connectivity, MetTel utilized Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology to ensure network performance and resilience, confirming that federal employees can operate efficiently nationwide, regardless of location.
Don Parente, Vice President of Public Sector Sales at MetTel, affirmed the project’s strategic importance, stating that the GSA now operates with a secure, resilient, and scalable network infrastructure built for the future.
The successful completion of this modernization effort underscores the critical shift federal agencies make toward secure, resilient, and highly efficient next-generation communications platforms.
