The U.S. Department of State recently approved a potential $445 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Kingdom of Bahrain, focusing on critical Bahrain F-16 Sustainment and related equipment. This newly proposed transaction significantly expands a previous FMS request, enhancing the maintenance and operational capabilities of the Royal Bahraini Air Force’s fleet. The sale package includes a wide range of essential components such as aircraft spares, missile containers, radar receiver parts, and specialized guidance and control section spares.
The sale names industrial giants General Electric Aerospace and Lockheed Martin as the principal contractors responsible for supplying the necessary systems and services. The total package also covers technical documentation, logistics services, and engineering support provided directly by the U.S. Government and contractors.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) emphasized that the transaction directly advances U.S. foreign policy and national security interests. It strengthens a crucial ally that actively contributes to maintaining regional stability in the Middle East. Furthermore, this equipment will enhance Manama’s ability to operate effectively alongside U.S. forces and regional partners, bolstering its capacity to deter potential adversaries.
Because the Bahraini military has operated the F-16, a fourth-generation fighter, for many years, officials anticipate seamless integration of the requested sustainment equipment. This latest approval reinforces a previous decision from 2017 when the State Department authorized the country to purchase 19 F-16V fighter aircraft. This focused investment in Bahrain F-16 Sustainment ensures continued interoperability and readiness.
