The U.S. Department of State (DOS) recently awarded a massive multiple-award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for facility operations and maintenance (O&M) services, securing crucial support for its domestic real estate portfolio. This major procurement, known as the Department of State O&M contracts, directs contractors to manage over 40 essential agency buildings across the United States. The contract ensures that DOS facilities remain safe, efficient, and fully operational for mission execution.
Industry Secures Key O&M Role
The Department of State selected a group of seven companies to execute this vital work. Awarded under an 8(a) small business set-aside, the contract vehicle represents a significant opportunity for these firms to directly impact federal readiness. The select group of awardees includes ALUTIIQ SOLUTIONS, LLC; AKIMA GLOBAL LOGISTICS, LLC; CHENEGA RELIABLE SERVICES LLC; KONIAG BUILDING SERVICES, LLC; and MEC ENERGY SERVICES LLC, among others. These small businesses will now provide essential facilities maintenance management under the extensive Department of State O&M contracts framework.
Comprehensive Scope Ensures Mission Readiness
The contract mandates a comprehensive range of facility support, covering everything from routine care to emergency response. Contractors will execute essential services that uphold the operational efficiency of DOS domestic properties. Key responsibilities include managing mechanical systems like Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical and plumbing maintenance, building automation systems, and specialized technical support.
Furthermore, awardees assume responsibility for janitorial and custodial services, grounds maintenance, integrated pest control, and rigorous environmental health and safety compliance, ensuring adherence to federal regulations. The contract’s goal is clear: maintaining critical infrastructure so DOS personnel can effectively execute their foreign policy mission. By structuring the agreement as an IDIQ, the DOS secures a flexible and experienced vendor pool ready to support its dynamic facility needs for years to come. This strategic award demonstrates the Department’s commitment to efficient facility management and recognizes the capabilities of the small business community in tackling large, complex federal requirements.
