The Defense Health Agency (DHA) has recently solidified a massive investment in the future of military healthcare by awarding approximately $8.07 billion in TRICARE contract modifications. These strategic awards to Humana Government Business, Evernorth Federal Services, and Ipsos Public Affairs ensure the continued delivery of essential medical and administrative services for millions of uniformed service members, retirees, and their families across the nation.
Humana Military Bolsters East Region Support
As part of the broader TRICARE contract expansion, Humana Government Business received a substantial $7.34 billion award. This modification exercises the second option period under the landmark $136 billion T5 contract originally established in 2022. Humana remains responsible for managing the integrated healthcare delivery system in the East Region, covering Washington, D.C., and numerous states. The newly activated option year will run from January 1 through December 31, 2026, ensuring that beneficiaries maintain access to high-quality civilian healthcare networks and seamless administrative support.
Evernorth and Ipsos Secure Critical Service Extensions
The DHA also prioritized pharmacy and patient experience through specific TRICARE contract updates. Evernorth Federal Services, operating through its Express Scripts business, secured $719.4 million for the fourth option period of the TRICARE Pharmacy Benefit Program. This extension covers nationwide pharmacy services, including retail networks and mail-order delivery through the end of 2026.
Simultaneously, Ipsos Public Affairs received a $10.1 million modification to continue its work on the TRICARE Patient Experience Survey. This effort utilizes the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) to gather vital feedback from adult and pediatric patients. These surveys are essential for the Defense Health Agency to monitor the quality of care and ensure the healthcare system evolves to meet the needs of those it serves.
Modernizing the Military Health System
These recent awards reflect a commitment to the T5 generation of contracts, which focus on improving patient choice and integrating telehealth innovations. By partnering with Humana Military, Evernorth Health, and Ipsos, the DHA continues to bridge the gap between military treatment facilities and civilian healthcare providers. These investments guarantee that the TRICARE program remains a robust, reliable resource for the military community through 2026 and beyond.
