The Department of State approved a potential $330 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) package, a crucial action that significantly boosts Taiwan Aircraft Sustainment capabilities. The sale, announced via the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), allows the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) to purchase non-standard spare and repair components and logistical support for its crucial air defense fleet.
Strengthening Air Fleet Readiness
Taiwan plans to acquire non-standard spare parts, repair parts, consumables, and accessories for its F-16 Fighting Falcon, C-130 Hercules transport, and Indigenous Defense Fighter aircraft. This comprehensive package also includes U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics services vital for maintaining fleet readiness.
The approval reinforces U.S. national, economic, and security interests in the Indo-Pacific region. This continued security assistance supports Taiwan’s ongoing military modernization efforts and helps maintain a credible defensive posture.
These parts and services will improve the recipient’s ability to meet current and emerging threats by ensuring high operational readiness across its air assets. This sale of equipment and support will help sustain Taiwan Aircraft Sustainment efforts without altering the basic military balance in the region.
The proposed sale is consistent with the law and policy that governs U.S. relations and support for Taiwan’s security.
