The Vectrus Iraq Base Support initiative recently received a major boost after the U.S. Department of Defense awarded Vectrus Systems, a V2X company, a critical cost-plus fixed-fee contract valued at $252 million. This substantial sole-source acquisition ensures the continued operational readiness of the Iraqi Air Force’s F-16 program by providing essential base operating support, comprehensive life support, and robust security services. The contract action confirms the U.S. commitment to Iraq’s air sovereignty under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
Sustaining Air Power and Infrastructure
Vectrus Systems actively manages the wide scope of services required at Martyr BG Ali Flaih Air Base (formerly Balad Air Base), the main hub for Iraq’s F-16 fleet. This comprehensive support guarantees that the air base remains secure and functional for the fleet, which conducts crucial counterterrorism operations against remnants of ISIS within the region. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base oversees the contract, which is slated for completion by September 2026.
Foreign Military Sales Framework
The contract utilizes Foreign Military Sales funding, highlighting the long-term defense cooperation between Washington and Baghdad. The initial obligation of nearly $124 million confirms immediate financial backing for the project, allowing operations to continue without interruption.
As a sole-source award, the selection of Vectrus recognized the company’s unique capability and established footprint necessary to deliver comprehensive Vectrus Iraq Base Support services in a complex operational environment. The timely injection of these resources is critical to sustaining the high-tempo missions executed by the Iraqi Air Force.
